costass created the topic: Problem with some scenes.
Hello all.
Sorry that write in English, but I don't know German.
Anyway, here is my problem. I creating a long sequence of many short scenes for example 3-6 min scenes. Then I just save , edit & cut and then do a new one. here is my problem though, this evening I just decide to watch all the scenes that I made back to back and the problem is that some of the scenes are completely messed up and not edited. I am sure that I watch all of my scenes at least 3 times before I make final save. Now one of my scene (the longest and hardest to make 6 min long) is completely messed up, all voice and SF are not in place, neither one of scenes is properly cut it like I was edited just a few days ago? Can please someone explain why this happened? Do i make some mistake? O, and by the way, I accedenly overwrite one of my saved games     and lost many scenes (still have them in video player , but not in the game) if someone have idea why my edited scenes are messed up let post some solution. I am mad because for a single scene I lost more than 4-6 hour to create sequence, edit, and finally do voices. This is just awful to see all this hard work go in trash can. :(

Well as I wrote somewhere else, "The Movies" ingame editor is a very weak tool with several bugs und you only should use it for the working steps which you can't avoid.
When you cut scenes, you have to begin left and then go to right scene by scene. When you finished and then you see, that you've forgotten to cut a scene in the middle, the voices will stay where they are and won't move with the shorted scene in the middle so you've got to move all the voices which are placed right of the edited scene.
The best thing to work with that tool is to make only very short scenes (not longer than 2 or 3 minutes), then to place the lip sync takes and then to export it. The precise cut you should do with your external editing programm.
That's also good for a further advantage: Some cuts will change the functions in that scenes. If you cut too short, then it could happen, that a door won't open anymore or the figure will look in another direction. So do only the rough cut with the ingame editor and do the fine work external.
If the scenes are exported once, nothing can happen which can change the pictures anymore, because then you really have a movie and no machinima anymore where the programm will always access to the 3D-engine of the game.
If you use "props" like horses or dogs you will see, that the animal is doing different moves everytime you play the scene. After exporting the scene it always does the same move.
I really don't know, what you made wrong. I only can imagine that you shot the movie again after editing it and then the former editing datas got reseted.
But if you work that way, I discribed above, you shouldn't have any problems anymore. Once your movie is exported it doesn't really matter, what happens with the former shot scenes ingame. ;)

Hi. Yes, I work exactly the way you described. No longer than 2-3 mines scenes and only rough work. Then everything will be edited with third party software. The case about my longest and damaged scene still stay mystery. I never re-shoot the scene because was very good. The edit and cut in The Movies is very limited it's even not contain UNDO which is big fall. and the problem with voice and sound fx is annoying. in my first ever scene I do all job , then I see a scene in the beginning that I don't like, I delete it and then all sounds was not in time. also the problem with the engine and moving object like (doors, props etc) is very anoying too. if you don't start scene from the start, game engine don't start all the operation and door stay closed. anyway I will just try to make a backup of every scenes that I do... this will prevent from accidently re shoot and stuff. Thanks for info.

Well you should export the edited scenes immediately after editing them, then nothing can scramble anymore.
And you've got to give every single new shot a new name otherwise the old (edited) scenes will be overwritten (but that really doesn't matter, when you have exported the old scenes. That can be helpful when you find a mistake while you edit it external and if you want to shoot this single part again). It's also no bad idea to save the game after you shot all scenes but before you published them, because then you're able to put the movie back to your own script office to change something, if you found a mistake. Once published it's not possible to correct a scene of that movie and you've got to make a new one. And if everything was allright, you can delete the shot scenes and add the next scenes, so you don't have to select the outfit of your actors again. But every single character must been placed in at least one scene (taken from the left option bar), so the programm can remind of his outfit.
There's one thing I didn't mentioned yet: When you didn't use the freecam function and use instead the suggested scene with some different cameraviews, the rythm of the cuts will change if you short that scene. So it's better to cut such scenes only external. ;)

I hope this was helpful!

Hm. I am not sure that I understand the last notice about freecam. 90% of my scenes are used with freecam, I rarely use pre made cams. sooner or later they became to repetitive and quickly become boring. so I use some new angels. I will try some of your advises. Thanks again.

PS. about publishing , I never publish anything in the game. I just shot and then do post production in movie player (or in game post production building) when movie is done I just put it close to my buildings. if I see errors I try to re-shot it. unfortunately most of the times adding just a single short scene messed up all other scenes. so I never reshoot anything now. if I mistake something, I just shot new scene, then , when everything is done I will stick together in third party software.

I just wanted to say that it can happen, that a scene with pre made cams can variate the points when the views change, if you cut such a scene. But if you don't use such scenes it doesn't matter anyway! ;)

i know this is an old post but anyways. I will usually export a scene 3-4 times and sometimes move the dialogue around just slightly so I will have a better chance of the lip sync and glitches worked out in the final product once I edit them in a different program. Also its good to leave some scenes inbetween without any dialogue especially from angles behind the character so if the lip sync gets messed up in exporting you cant tell when you edit it together. I dont know if you can understand exactly what I mean but I am posting a couple of my videos as an example. Generally when you export several times you have a better chance of lip sync working in one of the 3-4 exports. For exampke export 1 may have a conversation towards the beginning that syncs right but the rest doesnt. Export 2 may have a conversation towards the middle that may sync better but not the beginning or end etc. Its a tedious process but I have found a somewhat better way for a final product. Final editing in another program is always reccomended. You may or may not like my movie itself but you can at least see that I put a good amount of work into making the scenes flow more gracefully than if you used The Movies game by itself.

Basically the final edit will will be a frankenstein of 3-4 exports of the same scene.
