Sargantana created the topic: Issue - unable to install mods into Vista(32)
Hi there,
Having recently discovered 'The Movies' (better late than never!) and the fun one can have when in 'sandbox' mode. Recently I have been trying to introduce mods to my creations, but so far with only limited success.Following the usual methods described here (specific folder creation inside the 'data' folder) I have succeeded in being able to apply new make-up to my characters, however all my attempts to add costumes have so far resulted in no change whatsoever.
Of course I appreciate that 'The Movies' was not created with the wretched Vista in mind, and that the file handling has almost certainly been 'improved' by Microsoft to the point where mods can not be added. Nevertheless, I do find it strange to say the least that make-up can be added without any problem, and am left wondering if there still might be a cunning method by which to add other modifications?
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Wellcome to TheMovies3D!
Have you tried to use the MED to edit costumes?
MED-Tutorial
MED-Download
Here is a tutorial how to edit costumes with the Costume Editor:
Costume Editor-Tutorial It is a german tutorial perhaps the pictures will help a little bit.
Costume Editor-Download
Or did you try to add a costume-mod from this site which didn't work for you? Then post the link to the costume, please. Perhaps I can tell you how to get this mod into the game.

Hi, nice to 'meet' you
The costume I was attempting to install came from a different site, so I have downloaded the 'Alien' costume found on here so that we can be looking at the same thing. Unfortunately so far my efforts to install have produced the same results as before...
The first issue I have encountered is within the short 'read me' file;
'Copy all the files in Lionhead Studios/The Movies/
This is a costume. So you have to edit your category.ini file in data/COSTUME first
in category.ini add:
[category_JessFranco]
cat = category_JessFranco'
Alas, I have no 'category.ini' file anywhere to be seen!
I am aware that if folders do not exist then I am supposed to create them, but what might I do regarding this issue?
Ignoring the request to alter the missing .ini file, I then tried creating separate folders for the meshes etc, but still to no avail.
Cheers for offering to help

Perhaps this category.ini will help?
Put the category.ini into this folder: ...\Lionhead Studios Ltd\The Movies\Data\costume
You have to put all new modded category-names into this file ordered by there installation date.
Then you have to edit the "category_JessFranco.ini".
Be sure that all listed files/mods are installed already or just put the installed mod-name ordered by there installation date.

Please accept my apologies if I am a little slow in replying but I am currently in Barcelona (with a dissconnected lap-top) and so have limited internet access. I'll try out your suggestions asap - it would be great to crack the issues surrounding 'The Movies' and Vista, as nobody seems to have had much success thus far...
If all else fails I am fortunate enough to have a second PC in which I can install XP, but that would not help all those people using Vista out there experiencing the same problems I am.
Your assistance is very much appreciated. :0)
